Pownal Parkade

Built in 1986 on the site of a former Irving Oil Gas Station and parking lot, the Pownal Parkade was the second parking garage to be constructed in the City of Charlottetown at a cost of $3.5 million. Opened on July 15th 1988, this four-story parking garage was constructed of structural steel framing with concrete slabs and has space for 408 vehicles. Designed by architects Jones & Manning and built by local general contractor Williams, Murphy and MacLeod the facility was described at its opening to “follow the contours of the land” and “provides an excellent view of the city from its roof”. The parking garage has unique architecture highlighted by its large portal windows in the stairwells, a brick façade and rounded corners.

With pedestrian access from Queen Street the Pownal Parkade is centrally located at 100 Pownal Street, only steps from the Confederation Court Mall and the Confederation Centre of the Arts.
