The PEI Bio Commons project was born from the Robert Ghiz Liberal Government’s Island Prosperity Strategy. This strategy focused on 4 sectors of growth heading into the future, 1) Renewable Energy 2) Bio Science 3) IT 4) Aero Space. The BioCommons Research Park will become a centre for bioscience research and development, manufacturing and support services. The new Bio Commons Business Accelerator Centre will support the incubation of high potential, early stage companies and provide flexible wet lab and office space for them. The construction of this building was approximately $4.6 million and was completed in partnership with ACOA, the Province of PEI and CADC. Construction of the building was completed by local construction company APM. The building is approximately 33,000 sq ft and is currently two thirds full. The building was built to be as flexible as possible and can be subdivided into as many as 5 equal units of approximately 6000 square feet each.
