Charlottetown Area Development Corporation

About CADC

History

In 1973, a government commissioned study was released, which made a number of key recommendations regarding the development of properties within the City of Charlottetown. One year later, in 1974, Charlottetown Area Development Corporation (CADC) was created to fulfill the implementation of the recommendations in the study. CADC is run by a Board of Directors and has been in existence now for over 35 years. The Corporation has three shareholders - Province of P.E.I. (83 %) and City of Charlottetown (15 %) and Town of Stratford (2 %). These shareholders appoint the Board of Directors which oversees the activity of the organization. The Province’s responsibility for CADC is managed through the Department of Innovation and Advanced Learning, its Minister, the Honorable Allan Campbell, and Deputy Minister, Michael Mayne. The City of Charlottetown’s responsibility lies with the Mayor, the Honourable Clifford Lee. The Town of Stratford’s responsibility is with the Mayor, Kevin Jenkins. CADC’s mission was to redevelop the Charlottetown waterfront and revitalize the downtown which was experiencing urban decay like many other cities. Over the course of more than a quarter century, the CADC has been extremely successful in delivering developments in support of this mandate.
